DIMAXION

The dimaxion is about of showing my life in striving at HBP doing the RUS 101. All the time I had here was amazing. I create many great things under the extraordinary En. Wan. I felt that this dimaxion of my is makes me to look back. However, the paper used is very expensive and it is paid by Tuan Haji Rosli. The paper is big as it is in B4 size. I selected the most amazing thing happen here to be pasted on the dimaxion and this is how i done it.

after the selection of picture, i pasted it on the paper. This paper to become a dimaxion is need to be fold and i firstly pasted the picture before fold process. The picture is been cut to fit to the size of the dimaxion.

these are the things i used to make my dimaxion. the glue is used to paste the picture. the knife is used to cut the paper in dimaxion size as well as the picture to be pasted. the paper-cylaphonetape is used to combine the two papers to become the dimaxion as i been given two papers.

this is how my dimaxion looks like. after i finished it, it really makes me think of the event which the picture i selected.

SOUL SHIFT

ABSTRACT

An architect is a person trained in the planning, design and oversight of the construction of buildings, and is licensed to practice architecture. Several architect like Adolf Loos, Albert Kahn and many more. Friendly speaking, our physical environment is being increasingly designed without substantial content. The ancient notion of the unity of idea, unity of approach and unity of faith has ceased to be our premise for our thoughts and actions. The values of the truth, the good and the beautiful are ignored. Without this how can one ever create lasting quality of architecture. The other thing we need to do is sharing. Share in other word mean to make use joint of something. In the architecture scope we can share our idea in order to design buildings that can withstand the disaster that will happen in 2012. We also need to share the final design to public to make sure that many people can survive the disaster. By the knowledge and skill acquired, it must be served equally not distinguish between the position of someone. Serves is not just constructing a beautiful building but serviceable. The equality is needed so the world is better served as the level of humanity is vanish. With the honest of heart, the corruption will be evanished and the quality of life will be better. After all that we have done and after what we have created even though it is good or bad things, we can see the change in our surroundings. Every move, every action and every solution that we make will leave a trace. As far as we concern, the world nowadays has change because of the humanity that live inside it. As a conclusion, all human especially architect need to be prepared for all disaster expected that would be in 2012. We cannot walk alone. Time to talk alone is dying. We need to UNITE, SHARE, SERVE and SEE CHANGE to face all problems.

1500 WORDS

Architecture (Latin Architectura, from the Greek– arkhitekton, from arkhi-"chief" and tekton-"builder, carpenter") can be meant by the art and science of designing and erecting buildings and other physical structures, the practice of an architect, where architecture means to offer or render professional services in connection with the design and construction of a building, or group of buildings and the space within the site surrounding the buildings, that have as their principal purpose human occupancy or use as a general term to describe buildings and other structures as well as a style and method of design and construction of buildings and other physical structures. Architect is a person trained in the planning, design and oversight of the construction of buildings, and is licensed to practice architecture. To practice architecture means to offer or render services in connection with the design and construction of a building, or group of buildings and the space within the site surrounding the buildings, that have as their principal purpose human occupancy or use. In the perspective of Islamic architecture, Selimiye Mosque Edirne Islamic Architecture has encompassed a wide range of both secular and religious architecture styles from the foundation of Islam to the present day, influencing the design and construction of buildings and structures within the sphere of Islamic culture. Some distinctive structures in Islamic architecture are mosques, tombs, palaces and forts, although Islamic architects have of course also applied their distinctive design precepts to domestic architecture. The wide spread and long history of Islam has given rise to many local architectural styles, including Persian, Moorish, Timurid, Ottoman, Fatimid, Mamluk, Mughal, Indo-Islamic, Sino-Islamic and Afro-Isslamic architecture. Notable Islamic architectural types include the early Abbasid buildings, T-type mosques, and the central-dome mosques of Anatolia. There are several characteristic that we should do to change the world and faces of the becoming 2012.

Architecture is one of the professions that have preserved their specificity over the course of millennia, while constantly broadening its scope and complexity. Since the times of the earliest theorists it has been clear that architecture has a multidisciplinary plurality in its essence. It is the Roman theorist Marcus Vitruvius Pollio who stated two thousand years ago that three are the qualities to characterize the architectural creation, it should be useful, long-lasting and beautiful.

At each stage of development architecture has been in itself the material reflection of social and natural conditions, as well as the material and spiritual wealth of a nation. It has also traced the local peculiarities and identity, determined by the traditions that characterized every-day life and arts of a nation or a land.

During the last decades, it is the rapid technological advance that has posed serious threats before the living environment of the Earth. The methods and actions that architects and planners had traditionally used in their designs, as well as in planning of cities or landscape, proved to be not of the ability to ensure the sustainable relation between Man and Nation. Architects stand at the very heart of the process of creation the material environment and culture that is the most essential manmade treasure of this planet, being at the same time the strongest eroding factor for the environment.

Friendly speaking, our physical environment is being increasingly designed without substantial content. The ancient notion of the unity of idea, unity of approach and unity of faith has ceased to be our premise for our thoughts and actions. The value of the truth, the good and the beautiful are ignored. Without this how can one ever create lasting quality of architecture since architecture is neither purely a physical, a purely intellectual, nor a purely psychic phenomenon but comprehensive manifestation of all three, capable of influencing the lives of individuals and communities. Not often in architecture all these aspects are understood and translated into a design and built concept.

The other thing we need to do as the preparation to face any conflict that can happen in future is sharing. Share in other word mean to make use joint of something. As an architect the most valuable thing that we can share is our bright idea in order to design buildings such as house, office and other else that can withstand any disaster that may occur in the year 2012. Most experts believe that by 21 December 2012 there will be a great flood. This great flood will happen because of some factors that occur in the planetary system. Science show that Great Galactic Cross will occur during that time where the earth, sun, and venus are in perfect planetary alignment with black hole at centre of the milky way galaxy. So as a great and responsible architect, we must be able to generate our own idea in order to face this situation. We must share and discuss every single idea that we think good and appropriate in order to design buildings that still can continue it operation even the big flood is happen. The most important characteristic that must be includes in the design of that buildings is it can float if it surround by water. besides designing a building that can hold the fort during the catastrophe, architect also can share their idea about the best materials that can be uses to construct the building and the material must have several characteristic such as cheap, durable, easy to get and some more characteristic so that all people can afford for it. After making observation, discussion and conclusion for the best design and material we need to share the final result of the building to public. We also need to make sure that almost people know about the things that predict to be happens in 2012 and get prepare for any phenomenon. So most people can survive the disaster then share this beautiful world together in peace.

By the knowledge and skill acquired, it must be served equally not distinguish between the position of someone. An architect must not look down to the lower or middle income community especially as they are the majority and without their influences the demand is less acquire. Architects is to serve not to a particular people but all the human beings that need a shelter for themselves. However, many architects nowadays serves for the community only to take profit and just to make sure that their income is flowing into. They never think of the hardness of the people of having a house especially and the loan by the bank just to make it real. They also work and serve for people just for their own profit. The exploitation of the middle class people is becoming worst. Serves is not just constructing a beautiful building but serviceable. Serviceable in the context of giving a necessary or wanted services as well as useful to the people surrounding by not wasting or uncompleted building without thinking the effect to the people and nature. The equality is needed so the world is better served as the level of humanity is vanish. By giving fair serves, the level of humanity is stronger and even the nation is not well develop, it will make others to respect. Follow up to the worst exploitation, the architect is tend to take bribes by the project they handle. For example, the handling of the project is well planned and handled but the pay is more than what had been built. Taking a bribe is the most common thing happen within the architect as the all compete for a particular project. It is good to compete but the medium they used is wrong and if they give bribe, the project will be past by hand. Some says that if they do not give or take bribes, they will never get even a project and this is commonly happen to the young architect as they do not have many contact on giving a project.

From the perspective of an architect, we should build or design buildings that have a positive bond with the mother nature. If the architect only build for the sake of earning money and names without consider about the surroundings, we can see the change and the product because of our own mistakes. For an example, there will be a lot of disaster such as flash flood, land slide, collapse building, and many more. This is cause or the change that we can see in the future. In addition, there are many changes occurring in our world today. The nearest example is Dubai. In the past, Dubai is a small town and did not advance, but Dubai is currently one of the most famous city with rapid development. We could see Dubai city increased from time to time in terms of development and its own technology. It is good for a city to be developed, but we need to look at development from another angle. The city also produced a negative impact on the natural environment. Changes that occurred in Dubai makes the area a heat island. Although it is rapidly developing, but the architects who work there do not ignore the environment affected by the buildings they construct. Besides that, there is other change that occur beside the changes in the environment that is the change in the architects behavior themselves. Architects currently involved with corruption. There is a lot of changes that we can see in our world today. It is depend on us to choose whether the changes is beneficial or otherwise.

All parties must wake up from a dream and believe in the spirit expressed on the above. We must wake up for the 2012 disaster that would come. If we do not wake up and unite, then surely the world's will destroy by our hand. Architect today will forget the main goal of a more important architect must done. They just think about profits. Many practices and fraud happen. They must remember the real purpose of the architects must understanding the requirements in identifying the stakeholders, helping to analyse the requirements and extracting those of architectural significance. Formulating the design by creating a solution structure which will meet the various requirements, balancing the goals and constraints on the solution. Communicating the architecture by making sure that everyone understands the architecture. Different people have different viewpoints, so the architect has to present various views of the system appropriate to different audiences. Supporting the developers by making sure that the developers are able to realise the architecture, by a combination of mentoring and direct involvement. Verifying the implementation by ensuring the delivered system is consistent with the agreed architecture, and will meet the requirements. We need all of the objectives to be prepared for all disaster especially that being in 2012. We cannot walk alone. Time to talk alone is dying. We need to UNITE, SHARE, SERVE and SEE CHANGE to save our earth and ourselves.

POSTER

This is the poster of our architecture group which the idea is from Aiman, Safwan, Daphne, Saiful and I. This poster stated clearly that we should UNITE, SHARE, SERVE AND SEE CHANGE. This is the hope of our to the future.

DISCUSSION REPORT ON 2012 TALK

The talk was held on Monday morning at E48B and there are some people from other attended to hear the 2012 talk by En.Wan Burhanuddin. The students of RUS 101 also must attend this and give respond to it.

En. Wan talk about the 3P which is the main thing to have before something is done. This 3P is familiar among the students of RUS 101 which is people, place and principle. Before that, there are paradigm included social, environment and economy which involved people, place and money. Then, it will established intention, act and product. However, money is the problem now and everything we done must need money but then the money is then replaced with the principle. It is shows that, with the principle, a product can be work or manage.

He also stressed back on the title APEX as transformation by changing for tomorrow to jump to 2012 and status quo is not an option. He also remind about the aim of maintaining the 7 APEX visions which is the future, the uniqueness, sustainable, universal, changeability, and the sacrifice (the only we need).

THE REAWAKENING

It is where everything is change as nobody know what will happen in2012. There are many predictions saying that something BIG will happen and many of them busy build something to give shelter or safe place to live when the disaster is coming. It is like what Malay's saying 'sediakan payung sebelum hujan'.

BIG YAKIN

1) ideology
2) politics (can be rethought and reconstruct)
3) economy (suggested a resource-Based economy is deployed)
4) social system
5) culture
6) education (today is something which needs to be unlearned)
7) military
8) law (natural law is a must)

This is the only what i got to jot down during the talk and it was so fast talking by En. Wan and here are the QnA session.

Q & A

1) With the bamboo are supply for the project, how much the bamboo available and the challenge to get the bamboo ?

- the bamboo is order and some of them are being chop by students of their own and it is itchy and maybe have some skin problem if not used to it. And there are a lot of bamboo out there as 10% of the forest out there were the bamboo. However, now they started to bring Indonesia bamboo to grow in Malaysia as they already started to manufacture bamboo to produce or become something.

2) How long does the bamboo to grow matured ?

- bamboo is the one of the plant which is easier to grow and the best thing is if the strut of bamboo has been chopped, it will not only regrow one strut instead grows is a cluster which make the more you chop, the more the bamboo grow.

3) How the bamboo project contribute to APEX ?

- we cannot take anyone as model as we will always be left behind as we never get more or be more than the model and the product produced using bamboo can produce unity because all the project done using the bamboo is doing in a group. It will change everything as will save the world, save the people of the world and save the rule of the world or there are no longer have sense of sensitivity to nature.

4) What if on 2012, there are earthquake and tornado ?

- if the flood did not happen, we should thankful and the product we produced will be a new development and it is not a waste however. We never know what will happen in the future but from the predictions, some new development will be produced or manufactured that will change the perspective of others.

DOMESDAY

This project was issued last Friday and I cant update to my blog as the internet is being blocked for the weekend. However, I went to the rumpun buluh site to cut off to the particular length as was given by each section. I just need to cut 1 pieces of bamboo struts and the length is 2.5 meter with the 3 inches or 7.5 cm diameter. But, the actual diameter need to be cut is 7.0 cm to fit into the pipe for joint. After half an hour, I found the strut and started to cutting it into 2.5 meter. Here are some pictures of the day.

The bamboo which is already cut into pieces and need to cut into particular length within each group.

searching the accurate diameter of strut within 7.5cm. But, its actually 7.0 cm to fit in the pipe for the joints.

the correct size of strut was found and started
to cut it off.

I used the wooden saw first but it takes time just to cut
one end of the strut and it is so tired as we have more struts
to be cut.

Then, I borrowed the pipe saw I think from the girls and it is very quick and I just take 2 minutes at least to cut the struts.

At last I finished cut my strut and the day was so bright as well as hot.

MONDAY

On the Monday morning, I checked out at the website and it stated that we need to bring the struts for the studio that morning and the blog was update at 5 am in the morning. All of us got up from bed and quickly went to take the struts. Its so far and luckily one bus accepted us to sent us to the Dewan Budaya stop. Its okay as long as the walk is shorten. As I get into the lecture hall, En. Wan had finished explain on hoe to make the joint. However, after I carried the strut to the lab, I ask my friend for the joint and unfortunately the pipe was finished and I have to wait for the next morning.

I continued to make my strut fit into the pipe with the diameter of 7.0 cm. This is the way I do it.

the strut is hard and I need to used the parang and hammer.

the length is 11.8 cm of the strut must be fitted into the pipe of the diameter of 7.0 cm

TUESDAY

I decided to finish the work on that morning as i've been told that the polypipe was finished. I had finished all my work with the strut but I only stuck with the pipe.

the pipe is cut into 2 pieces as
i only need to fit to 1 strut

after the cutting process, i cut the edge
so the nut can be placed for the connection.
i heated the pipe so the curve part become
flat for the bolt and nut

i make a hole for the nut and bolt be placed
for the joint of the strut

the last is the flat part is been shape to be half
round shape and it is the same for the other pieces
of the pipe

the finished strut after the pipe is fit into both sides.

LOOKING BACK, FORWARD AND MONUMENT

LOOKING BACK

On the 1st day I step at USM, I came with grateful as I’ve been chose to study at USM majoring in architecture. I know how happy and proud my family especially my parents for me to be at the university and I know well my mother as she always took education as the most important thing. My mother always reminds us for being educated and study for the best and for that, I respect my mother most. I know my family count on me to study for success and left all the previous bad habit for being lazy and take thing for granted and switch it to the new ways of effort. I think that was the hope of all the parents for their children.

I came with the hope of my parents and the 1st lecture was gave by En. Wan and he had talked and stress about the 3P which is people, principle and place. That was the major or important things need to be stressed on doing something. His talk about this thing went till almost the class of the week. At first, the lecture was ok, but En. Wan’s lectures always makes me think of something extraordinary. However, because of his lectures, I started to do something unusual but I always stuck at the middle when I cannot think one. It’s hard to get to En. Wan’s level. At that particular time, I kind of came back to my bad habit which is the favorite among the students, sleep and doing last minute work. Because of the habit, I always stayed up till 4 a.m in the morning.

But, I was given a task by En. Wan titled ME, MYSELF and I and it really makes me think of myself and I started to realize of what I’m doing now. I get back my head straight plus the hopes of my parents to not break their heart on sending me here. After that, I always make sure that I did not do the same thing ever but sometime it’s cannot be left all out. However, I become better.

After all about 2 months at USM, and after the Hari Raya about 2 weeks holiday, I cannot finished my assignment and I have to force myself to finish it that night. That’s ok until the morning lecture after the En. Wan stopped his talk, Dr. Elias came to front and said something about the girls taking at the back while En. Wan lecturing. I know that he’s a bit angry to them for not pay attention and he keeps talking about the girls behind. So, that’s why I got this assignment on looking back of myself and it’s really makes me realize again.

LOOKING FORWAD

This is the part where En. Wan added to looking forward and can contribute to the 2012 disaster. I think that the 2012 disaster which will sink the Penang Island is a huge problem and with the raft built by HBP students, it will absolutely not secure at all.

For me to looking forward in aspect of what I want to be in the future, it depends a lot to my education and skills. Maybe nowday education not too stressed out as they looking for extraordinary people with the extraordinary skills. For me after looking back myself, I will improve myself to become one of them. I really want to help my family and give them what I’ve been dream on for the whole life.

Maybe if I study the nature or the earth after I get my certificate, I can change or prevent this disaster from occur at that particular time for at least maybe a couple of years. However, this disaster is just the prediction of what will happen to the island. Plus, the disaster is said to be happened because of the people themselves. They keep doing thing to the earth without thinking to others and get selfish day by day.

By thinking of the disaster that will occur, it really makes me think of the future and I hope that when the time has come for me to make a moves, I get many hands to help me in succeed this things.

SURVIVAL KIT

I've been assigned to design a survival kit according to the article of Artificial Agro-Lumber. The product or design of mine is depends on the article and the kit must be made from lumber. I chose the lumber as the material for the survival kit because it has various densities and hardnesses.

Lumber also has no preservative treatment and it cost effectiveness. It can also be moulded to any form and easily be milled and cut. By the advantages of the lumber, I know that this material is suitable for survival kit making.

This is how my designs looks like.

I choose to design a fishing rod as one of my kit so it can be used catch a fish. This is because the lumber is lighter and easily be cut into.

So, the food supply can be maintain and there's no need to worry about as long the fish is in the water.

My 2nd design is knife and axe. The holder is made from lumber and the knife can be cut to a sharp form to enable for cutting.

The knife can be used to cut the fish and other.

As well as the axe, it can be used for the similar thing.

My 3rd design is a rower. This can be used for rowing or control the pondok so that it is not move somewhere else and to keep the pondok constant at one place.

It is lighter and easy to row. So the energy used is less.
